I have designed a patch antenna in HFSS and now i want to study the circuit parameters of the antenna. please suggest the ways i can extract the circuit parameters of patch antenna.
Every antenna has equivalent circuit diagram. Best way is to study about circuit parameters, go through C. A. Balanis. there is plenty of explanations with examples. Circuit parameters are resistance, capacitance and inductance, which is important to measure when matching is being done. So, the patch and microstrip line have separate parameters which is need to matched.
I recommend you to use the article, which offers a simple equivalent circuit of the dipole antenna:
M. Hamid and R. Hamid, “Equivalent Circuit of Dipole Antenna of Arbitrary Length,” IEEE Trans. Antennas Propag., vol. 45, no. 11, Nov. 1997, pp.1695-1696.
that, I think, is also suitable for a patch antenna.
The procedure for determining the parameters of this scheme is as follows
1. Derive an analytical expression for the impedance Zcir of this circuit.
2. Calculate the detailed dependence of the impedance of the antenna under study in a given frequency band using HFSS.
3. Create an objective function that describes the difference between Zcir and Zant in the frequency band using the least squares method. The parameters of an equivalent circuit should serve as variables in this function.
4. Find the minimum of this function using known optimization methods. The values of the variables at the function minimum point are the required parameters of the equivalent circuit.
5. Compare the impedance of the circuit with the impedance of the antenna in the frequency band of interest.
If, you are not satisfied with the accuracy of the calculations obtained with this equivalent circuit, use circuits that are more complex. Examples of such circuits can be found here:
As far i know, you need to knwo the equivalent in terms of R L C and you can find values by tuning in ADS to get same S Parameter response as you got though HFSS.
