Dear colleague, in order to reply your question it is necessary to know the purpose of your tests. Is it to find cracks or to measure temperature dependent modulus or internal friction, etc?
Дорогой коллега, я искренне желаю Вам успехов. Я пытался ответить на вопрос: How to overcome the limitation in ultrasonic inspection on cast iron due to their coarse grain structure? в том смысле, что надо понять, что человек хочет мерить и вдруг появился Ваш комментарий: We do not have corresponding equipment, в свете которого вопрос вообще теряет смысл. С доброй памятью о Тавадзе и конференциях с Сухуми и Кутаиси, И. Головин
Dear sir,in my project i want to inspect the aisi stainless steel casting components by using phased array ultrasonic testing technique which is an advanced technique among non destructive testing techniques to find the defects in the material.in this material i want to detect the defects on them.but the major disturbance is attenuation loss and scattering noise is occurred during the inspection due to their coarse grain structure.how to overcome this problem, and how to detect the defects in the material.instruct me.
It is recommended to go with lower frequencies in order to decrease the amount of structural noise. On the other hand, there are specific processes and data processing techniques -e.g. synthetic aperture focusing (SAFT)- which enhance the SNR. These methods are highly recommended to be used for the inspection of austenitic stainless steel. I refer you to the following paper:
- A system for high-resolution, nondestructive, ultrasonic imaging of weld grains
You should also consider the effect of beam redirection in case the material contains elongated dendrites.
