Thank you Kunal, C642 outlines the procedures for experimental water absorption and boiling water ingress in concrete, as we know it.

But I am looking for "general insights", like a model which could relate open porosity to known properties of concrete.

Simplest method  is water absorbtion test,easy and quick

By Mercury intrusion is possible to get total and distribution size porous.

The simplest method is Water absorption , but for more depth research you can use other methods,

• We have developed a theoretical model for water absorption of concrete that can predict the final absorption and the rate of absorption using a few data. We have not related this model to other concrete properties and it is something for a researcher to work on. If you have data you can try it and see if it is useful for your research. The thesis is in Portugues but I can see if we can prvide you with the translation of this section.

Using microtomography to get 3D microstructures of concrete, and then using percolation theory to analyse the connectivity of pores, we can get open porosity of the samples. I emphasis that only 3D images can estimate open porosity.
