How true is it that the water/solution becomes acidic with time/corrosion inside crevices and pits, which causes more corrosion? Are there any experimental reports supporting this crevice and pitting corrosion mechanism?
I have not received or found any experimental report that convincingly tested the chemical changes in confined water/ aqueous solution inside the crevice. Therefore, we can not confirm the mechanism of crevice or pitting corrosion.
