I am trying to use random fields to simulate the uncertainty of soil profiles (in 2D and 3D) in FLAC. I want to ask everyone, is there any example that can clearly explain how to do this simulation, either in FLAC or other software packages?
I cannot say about FLAC, but Random Fields are implemented “out of the box” and “easy to use” in Optum G2 (normal and lognormal distributions with Karhunen-Loeve expansion as a generation method). They have examples.
In addition, there is a lot of information and examples on DIANA FEA, but I do not use it, unfortunately. So, I cannot tell you much. If I am not mistaken, many types of generation methods and various non-Gaussian distributions are implemented there. There are many theses and articles, also a webinar on using it in DIANA.
