I am working on organometallic complexes, especially Zn(II) based 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine complexes. when i am doing time resolved fluorescence lifetime measurement and found that the lifetime of the flurophores increase with increasing electron donor group? but i can not correlate this statement. 1. Is it correct this statement ?. 2. if yes means, how can i correlate the the statement. Kindly give me some suggestion.

Hi Raja,
It is important to consider the solvent you use. It is probably a matter of dipole-dipole interactions between your [Zn]dye complex and the solvent molecuels, remember that fluorescence lifetime strongly depends on the polarity of the medium. Then, as you increase the donor capability of the substituent, the dipolar interactions with the solvent become more important and that must influence your lifetime measurements making it larger.
