Sure alot of andriod applications are available to collect both point data or track, i have installed 2 applications 'Myjejak" from Google play/Samsung app to collect point data and another is "Trip joural" to collect tracss or line data.
As far as I know, there is nothind similar to ArcPad (I dislike it), but you can try Geopaparazzi that allows you to create forms and use also spatiallite format. See http://code.google.com/p/geopaparazzi/wiki/Docs.
Mauro De Donatis I tried it but I could not figure out how to customize it to collect data in the field screen shots shows some forms regarding Bank Can you help me to find the place to read about customization of geopaparazzi there is no forum to discuss this kind of issues
Hi Nipul! Probably not the most useful response since the software in question has yet to be released, but keep an eye on the FAIMS project. While it's being designed with archaeology in mind, the end product will be a suite of Android applications which will allow data from field and laboratory work to be collected using mobile devices. The applications are going to be completely customization using XML, so should be able to be used for any scientific application imaginable. Definitely something worth checking out as they push it out of development!
This is highly dependent on the type of data your collecting, there are many notepads and other apps with customization such as evernote. These would be for quite simple data collection.
ArcPad is also an option for spatial data collection
Even with the rise in technology I still believe the best option is a waterproof pad and pencil/pen it near indestructible, water proof and does not require batteries.
Thank you for your information but Geopaparazzi is very good piece of work but very slow in addressing problems still I could not run it on My Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 it has become a dream.
I have tried GPS Essentials as you recommended It works fine in my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 But I am looking for some software which can collect the information (attribute data) with location data. this will allow us to collect location data.
Could you please check "Geology Sample Collector" on the android market. Its free. I have just installed it. Looks like a bit complex at first. But in a while you get used. It has the capacity to add additional fields. Got built in theodolite, GPS, Clinometer, Camera. Data backup can be done to its server database and synced with the mobile device as well. Seems to work fine. Please provide us the feedback
Nicolas is right. But you also need something to get field information more freely with notes, sketches and pictures. We should find a way of working as we did before the diital age (colored pencils and paper maps). At the moment different tools can get this goal but the work must be much more simplified. I look for an app merging geopaparazzi and ODK for having fieldbook and forms.
There are quite a number of tools. To begin with Nicolas answer in the form of ODK ... you can also check out Fluid Surveys, epicollect and others. It of course depends on your budget ... if this is not an issue you could as well use ArcPad, SuperPad etc.
True said, ArcPad is very useful in mobile field mapping and data collection. It has advanced GIS and GPS capabilities for capturing, editing, and displaying geographic information quickly and efficiently.
Other attractions include the ability to check critical data in and out of a multi-user or sharable personal geodatabase.
ESRI's Collector is a new customizable field data collection tool. Currently you will need either an ArcGIS Online (AGO) account or ArcServer for the data/map storage as you collect. ESRI promises that the next release of Collector will work off line (coming in December). I've been experimenting with it for the past month to collect and correct data about campus civil features (manholes, outfalls, hydrants). Excellent tool.
I just posted an application to Google Play that I wrote for use as a tool to georeference field observations. It runs on Android tablets and phones. It is user customizable. Data is exported as csv. Below is the link.
I'm using DataScope (https://www.mydatascope.com) They have an Android and iOS app, it works perfect offline and then you can syncronize the information. It's simple like Google forms but you can gather more things such as photos and signatures. They have a free versions ;)
Yatrafish , (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.blepsias.yatrafish) has been a good performer for enumerating georeferenced field observations with data downloadable as a csv file later.
Have you tried yet Teamscope? Teamscope (https://www.teamscopeapp.com) is a secure and easy-to-use data collection platform for clinical research, it's available on Android and iOS and perfect for capturing data offline.
