The Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA, Tervuren, Belgium) has an acknowledged expertise on mineral deposits in Central Africa: Cu-Co and Mn in the Katanga, Sn-Ta-Nb in Eastern DRC, Rwanda and Burundi, Cu-Pb-Zn in the West-Congolian domain, among others. These deposits are studied in close partnership with colleagues in the local Geological Surveys (DRC, Burundi, Rwanda) and universities worldwide. More recently, the RMCA has paid special attention to Cenozoic weathering in Northern and Central Africa, and its impact on the formation/enrichment of supergene mineral deposits. Would anyone with a background in related research be interested to join an informal working group on Cenozoic supergene mineral deposits across Africa? Research focuses would be the formation processes, age, and metal enrichment(s) in the supergene deposits. Attention would also be paid to the enrichment in rare, strategic, metals (REE, Ge, Ga, In, etc.). The RMCA is willing to produce innovative research and state-of-the-art review papers on these issues, whose importance for the global economy is obvious. If there is an interest, a 1st meeting could be organized at the 35th International Geological Congress (IGC, Cape Town, RSA), where Damien Delvaux and myself will convene a special session entitled “An updated vision on geodynamics and mineral resources in the Central African Shield and Congo Basin” (Special session 35th IGC, Cape Town 27 August - 4 September 2016, Core Topic: Fundamental Science / Theme: Dynamic Earth); please visit: http://www.35igc.org/Themes/18/A-Dynamic-Earth
