I need to perform a tensile test on a 30 micron thick electrospun polymer film, and fabrication limits the maximum length of a specimen to 80 mm.

Similar publications have used the ASTM D638 standard, which requires the specimen to be at least 1 mm thick. Others have just used simple rectangular strips with custom dimensions without mentioning any standard.

For publications on electrospun polymers, is it acceptable to not follow a specific tensile testing standard ? If not, which one would be applicable in my case ?
