in the case of axisymmetric abrupt contraction ,the most reseachers use the reynolds number defined by metzner and reed for the Herschel Bulkley fluid ,but i don't find any Reynolds number for the rectangular abrupt contraction,can anyone suggest me or tell me how to define it.
I think that the best way to define a general Reynolds Number for experimental purposes and applicable to different rheological behaviours is the Malin definition. Please, see the following articles:

I believe for rectangular ducts just change the variable related to the geometrical aspect of your phenomena.

I used a Reynolds number by calculating the parietal viscosity via the shear rate and the parietal stress.
I have seen these two articles, but I think this parietal viscosity is more appropriate for my case.
