Many of us wonder if there is an afterlife. Some scientists find it unacceptable, challenging the idea of an afterlife. What are your personal takes on the afterlife and why? What would not having one, because it was scientifically discovered that there is no afterlife or a remedy for aging as well as a cure to all diseases was found, entail for upcoming generations?
This is a question of faith. Faith means that you believe without evidence. I answer your question with: Yes
Such a great questions with so many opinions. After years of researching near-death and other transpersonal experiences associated with death and dying, I would say the following:
There seems to be some part of us that continues on after bodily death. There is considerable evidence that individuals who have near-death experiences, death bed communications and after death experiences see, hear or otherwise experience events and individuals who have died, on occasion not knowing of the death. There are two articles and a book I've published listed on RG about what they experience. One of the most popular ones is about a woman who during a cardiac arrest floated out of her body and saw a red shoe on the roof of the hospital I worked in. A curious resident when up on the roof and came back carrying the red shoe.
Is there an afterlife that continues to exist after immediate bodily death? Again there seems to be at least anecdotal evidence to support that. At the time of death individuals report visits from deceased friends and/or relatives. On some occasions they see people whom they did not know had died.
Some people see deceased relatives years after that person's death in an after -death communication. There's one of my articles on this RG website about near-death and other transpersonal experiences during catastrophic events. One woman, for example, visiting a concentration camp where her uncle had died experienced contact with him several years after his death. She described what she saw to her mother, her uncle's sister, with details she had not been told about him that her mother said where consistent about her deceased brother.
In order to gather more conclusive evidence, this field of research needs to move beyond the qualitative and description levels of evidence to more advanced methods. On this youtube link you'll see an attempt to do a pre and test attempt at visualization of an electronic measure during an OBE or NDE. The pre testing is not mentioned in the video. Also Ken Ring a well known psychologist discusses his view of the afterlife.
There are many books and articles on this topic. Unfortunately there is limited funding available to study the subject.
