I am studying the importance of 'context' for Enterprise Information Systems. In most systems 'context' (this is the social dynamics in which a business process functions) is captured in metadata. This is a very limited way of capturing context, for it is impossible to capture social dynamics that way. I really would like to have the opinion of fellow scientists on this matter. Are there instuments, methods, or systems that allow for capturing social contexts? For the reconstruction of the past, absolutely necessary for accountability and governance, the possibility to contextualize past actions and transactions is an absolute necessity.

Thank you both for your answers. Both models are known to me and it is possible to partly gather and capture the data I need. What I need is something like an 'oracle' (Devlin, K.J. (1991) “Oracles in situation semantics”, J. Barwise, J.M. Gawron, G. Plotkin, S. Tutiya (eds.), Situation Theory and its Applications, Vol. 2, Menlo Park, CLSI, Chapter 3, pp. 41-49), but used for past actions and transactions. Systems context and business process context are part of the solution, but context is needed for sensemaking of social situations and the information generated within that social situation. That is extremely difficult to realize for how to mirror social situations within systems?
To capture highly nuanced renderings of any situation (i.e., to "mirror social situations within systems"), one must necessarily resort to highly comprehensive and sensitive capture tools. It would seem from your query that audio-video graphic tools would come closest to offering the situational fidelity that you seek and even these could fall short of expectations as some aspects or social dynamics are possibly not captured using sight or sound using conventional audio-video recording approaches in corporate settings. But such tools would get you closer from where you are to what you seek. Then again, there yet remains the non-trivial business of reliably capturing, storing, analyzing, and fruitfully exploiting such information in timely, cost-effective, value-adding ways. Alternately, one may compromise and opt to capture, store, and process relevant situational dynamics attributes in conventional data stores if one can pre-define what attributes may be of interest in the future. Because what present day systems themselves offer seem to fall short of your expectations, you will need to build any such capabilities into the systems.
It is what I suspected to be necessary. What to do? I think I am going to create a case study to use audio-video tools to capture the social dynamics in reaching decisions and try to define attributes of social dynamics to be captured in data stores. Using audio-video graphic tools in continuously capture those situations will be, I think, quite difficult to use in daily practice. Thanks a lot for your answer. It gives me enough to think about!
You're welcome, G. J. Yes, the audio-video capture may have to be triggered, or not, in a situation-dependent manner as its impractical to do so continuously. I think articulating such possibilities using illustrative case situations and, perhaps, also articulating possible enhancements to existing models, is a good idea.
