I have server A - with 2 10G NIC interfaces, (One for incoming traffic & One for Outgoing traffic.)
I have Server B - With 2 10G Nics - One for incoming traffic & One for Outgoing traffic.
I would like to pump some 10Gbps traffic from Server A NIC1 to Server B's NIC1.
The traffic is processed by the CPU of Server B and forwarded to NIC2 and then sent back to Server A NICB.
1. I would like to measure Server B's CPU utilization during this test.
2. I would like to measure traffic Received back on Server A's NIC B.
I need a opensource tool to test this.
p.s: I am aware of spirent and Ixia, but I look out for a opensource software version.

Hi, for measuring CPU performace you can try:
- under linux the comand 'top' or its evolution 'htop'
- under mac OSX for sure you can find 'top'
- under microsoft OS try the 'taskmgr' command
for measuring the traffic you can use again the above commands or the traffic analyzer 'wireshark' which free and cross-platform
You might be able to leverage netperf - www.netperf.org/netperf/
When I used it many years ago, in combination with top, you could monitor CPU usage and force traffic across specific network connections.

Krishna - If I understand, you want to do a round trip from machine A to machine B - but you want communication to be A1 -> B1 and then B2 -> A2? Like I said, my use of netperf was a long time ago (over 20yrs).
Since the netperf code is open source, you could modify it to your heart's content to do what you want. Thinking off the top of my head, you would want to have A1 and B1 on one subnet, B2 and A2 on a different one - otherwise you have congestion issues - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/175767
if i remember correctly, you have netperf running on each machine (one receiving packets, one sending). To do what you describe, you might want to consider two copies running on each machine one send, one receive and have them attach to shared memory so that the sender only starts after the receiver has received a packet (once the receiver has received a packet, it sets a semaphore in shared memory which the sender has been doing a wait operation on). Of course this begs the question of how to start this loop, so the sender on A1 will actually have to have a command line that initiates the traffic.
There are probably easier and more efficient ways, but this comes to mind almost immediately.
