Hello,

A 1mm wire is a very large object, a TEM lamella will be only some 10 micrometers wide. Here I would suggest the classical TEM preparation using embedding, cutting, polishing, and thinning by electrochemistry and ion thinning. If a certain part of the wire is of interest it's tricky but doable.

If a wire is made of soft metal (Al, Cu) it is possible to cut it with an ultramicrotome, just as a biological tissue.
