I have a set of consumption amounts of 6 categories of inputs for a large sample of people.

For example, individual 01 takes 1g, 2g, 3g, 4g, 5g, and 6g of input A, B, C, D, E, and F, respectively.

I want to produce one number that expresses the level of balance of intake from the six categories.

So far, I have used a formula that sums the distance between each consequent intake in absolute terms (so |(1-2)+(2-3)+(3-4)+(4-5)+(5-6)|). Is this correct? If not, is there a way to achieve the same objective and get a number that expresses the proportional balance of the set of values?
