If I were to place a device that would ventilate and bring down the temperature of a diesel powered electric generator (for commercial use eg. Buildings or large homes) be useful in making the generator more efficient ?
The diesel engine used to power the generator has an in-built cooling system and a thermostat to keep the engine temperature in check. Also the cooling fan provided not only cools the radiator but also helps ventilate the exterior of the engine.
The layout of the exhaust piping has to be designed appropriately so as to dispose off the exhaust gases safely and quickly.
Hence an additional ventilation system would not be necessary unless the engine is overheating (look at the temperature gauge) frequently.
If you are really interested in an efficient engine then try to look for a method to cool the air entering the combustion chamber as this will increase the volumetric efficiency and hence the mass of charge into the engine. The output of the engine is directly proportional to the mass of charge(air) entering.
