However, are there any academic standards for this aproach? Is there a good article describing rules for sampling, analysis and conclusions etc.
I use the clarification part of your question as the central guideline for your research (what makes academic practice?). From my opinion the most important reference in that field would be "Laboratory Life: The Construction of Scientific Facts" by Latour and Woolgar 1979. This book is an important reference in the fields of Science and Technology Studies (STS). One important stream of research in that field is how scientists do things together with objects, and techniques.
