What is the difference between SCI Journal and SCI expanded?
Due to overloaded database of science citation index, its expanded version created which we call as science citation index expanded. So there is absolutely no difference between the two.
There is one more database Emerging Source Citation Index. It is comparatively low valued as the journals in this database can not have impact factor.

The Science Citation Index (SCI) is a citation index originally produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and created by Eugene Garfield. It was officially launched in 1964. It is now owned by Clarivate Analytics (previously the Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters).
The larger version Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) covers more than 8,500 notable and significant journals, across 150 disciplines, from 1900 to the present. These are alternatively described as the world's leading journals of science and technology, because of a rigorous selection process.
Based on the fact that Thomson Reuters selects journals of SCIE (including SCI)through a strict selection process, we hereby prove that journals of Science Citation Index® (SCI) and Science Citation Index ExpandedTM (SCIE) have the SAME QUALITYas the journal selection process for journals of SCI and SCIE is essentially identical.
The small difference between Science Citation Index® (SCI) and Science Citation Index ExpandedTM (SCIE) is the storage format. As known, both SCI and SCIE areavailable online. However, SCI is available on CD/DVD format but SCIE is not.
