I am searching for a (relatively) comprehensive taxonomy or list of qualitative research methodologies. A list that goes beyond Creswell's "five approaches" (likely not exhaustive, but nonetheless more detailed and inclusive). Preferably one that does not only name the various methodologies but also provides some information regarding the methods that each methodology employs and the philosophical background that it draws on as its point of departure. Any suggestions where such a list may be found?

Thank you. It seems that this is still work in progress. But it seems like a good place to get a glimpse of the variety. I was hoping also to find source that has been published by a bona fide publisher.

I suggest you check out Normal Denzin's and Michael Giardina's work, they have written a lot about qualitative methods. Among works are:
- Qualitative Research and Social Inquiry
- Qualitative Inquiry and Global Crises
- Qualitative Inquiry and the Politics of Research
- Qualitative Inquiry in Neoliberal Times
Denzin also organizes the annual International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (usually in May), and you may want to check it out as well.
Also, Joe Norris' book, Playbuilding as Qualitative Research: A Participatory Arts-Based Approach, may be of interest.

I would recommend Denzin's and Lincoln's Qualitative research (Sage), but let me ask (and clarify) - do you need a list of the methods or the list of methodologies/research approaches (the one that mentioned Shanne Burke, for example)?
Petra Ponocná thank you for the request for clarification. Indeed there seems to be much confusion surrounding the distinction between "method" and "methodology". Assuming that "method" means "the actual practices used in the study (i.e., the means for gathering data, kinds of data, analytic procedure, etc.) and "methodology" outlines the principles that guide research practices, I meant methodologies (e.g., off the top of my head: grounded theory, descriptive/interpretative phenomenology, narrative research, narrative inquiry, ethnography, autoethnography, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, conversation analysis, participatory action research, consensual qualitative research, discursive psychology, ethnomethodology, case studies, heuristic research, intuitive research, art-based research, photo-voice). I will make that clear in the question.
