I prepared zerovalent iron thin films, and also sulfated and nitride version of it. Lower band gap facilities electron transfer which is beneficial to environmental remediation, but experiment with cyclic voltammetry is expensive- reference electrode and glassy carbon. Also solutions etc. I wonder if there is any alternative method that can equally determinate band gap of iron based nanoparticles and thin films?

UV-visible DRS is quite an efficient technique to determine bandgap. It is not so expensive (although not cheap as well) but if you can find one, it can be used for bandgap determination.

but isnt DRS require transparent material? it is expencier than glassy carbon
UV visible DRS stands for Ultraviolet visible light diffused reflectance Spectroscopy. As your sample is thin film , therefore you should go for this technique.
You will get an absorption curve due to electron transition in the bandgap of semiconductor. From this absorption you have to perform Tauc Plot analysis and thus getting the bandgap value of your semiconductor.
Indeed all these techniques are expensive but one has to avail them for research. So look out and collaborate with other researchers you might definately find some help.
