I am trying to find a software that is better than excel or Scilab to plot a 3Dsurface plot. The one that I am looking for should have acceptance of more than 1000 series of entries better than the 255 allowed entries limit of Excel. I am not able to plot this set of data in even Scilab because it has a 4 digit limit on the number of allowed entries on input data. I have U and V on X and Y and want F(U,V) data plotted on 3D surface plot.
If you want a free coding tool, try Octave. Some people prefer raw gnuplot in C code.
Octave may seem not as cool as Scilab at first, but there are less bugs, higher performance with a lot of data and more flexibility when coding. unfortunately, it has no object browser inside, so you will have a hard time untangling the object hierarchy with limited probing commands set.
But really, in 3D Matlab may produce most beautiful plots, even with limited flexibility.
If you don't need hard programming, the best data 3D representation may be reached with Paraview.
Paraview is the hardest boiled 3D tool based on VTK.... and full of bugs. Still, 3D effects and transforms are impressive. Python compatible.
Very compatible with fluid dynamics. But not very good for EM fields, since it does not understand when the flow vector is perpendicular to the field vector, so the field vectors can not be adequately arranged and transformed with energy flow in time.
