Yes absolutely working ...IIT & IIM in India are following flipped class room strategy

The flipped classroom means to move students away from passive learning: within this context, the teacher is a facilitator who empowers students to take control of learning. The modus operandi of the flipped classroom pertains to virtual space, electronic modes of delivery, and highly customized timelines (and deadlines) for learning; a learner-centered approach to learning; intentional content; and professional educators who guide and continuously improve learning. By providing students the material they need to reach a desired level of knowledge and understanding in advance, on-ground classroom time can be used to develop higher-level cognitive skills and deepen learning.

Some challenges of the flipped classroom are that it relies on preparation and trust; there is significant work at the front-end; time spent in front of computer screens—rather than with fellow students and teachers in physical spaces—is substantial; the cumulative workload of concurrent courses and associated pre-class learning can become overwhelming and may lead to students coming to on-ground classes unprepared (which de facto undermines the pedagogical model); it is not a natural form of learning for test (or exam) preparation (and certainly not for standardized tests); and teachers may not be sufficiently prepared, motivated, or supported for success.

I think that for the flipped classroom to be successful the teacher must have the ability and motivation to promote self-learning. Only with these skills can you properly transfer the work of certain learning processes outside the classroom. The teacher must use class time to facilitate and enhance other processes of knowledge acquisition and practice within and the classroom. When teachers design and publish an "online", class time is released so that what is the flipped classroom can facilitate student participation in active learning through questions, discussions and applied activities that encourage exploration, the articulation and application of ideas.

Angelica Inostroza, I have just started the second year of a PhD whose mode of delivery is the flipped classroom. We meet on-ground once a month (or every three weeks) for every course, of which one takes two or three each semester (meaning every three months). Everything else is conducted by electronic means. What I wrote earlier is based on my experience so far.

When I taught my first flipped classroom, one student eval said "we learned a lot even though she didn't teach us. We had to teach ourselves for the discussion." Through that I learned they needed to understand why they needed to do so much prep. I also found that I needed to teach them to budget their time before class so they were ready. Finally, to reward them for the prep, you must engage them in a discussion where they use what they learned during prep. Doing that inspires the students who didn't prep to do better and rewards the ones who did prep with a less-stressful approach to participating in a rich class discussion.
