Until fairly recently comics and comic magazines have not been systematically collected by research libraries. Researchers interested in exploring these materials are often facing severe difficulties in locating hard copies. Increasingly digitised copies of entire comic collections are made available through file sharing sites. What are the legal and ethical implications of using such materials for research? Is it time for copyright law to prioritise access to out-of-print materials over the interests of copyright holders?

The comics or comicbooks, as photography and cinema, represents an important source of information. As you say, one of its biggest problems is to access its contents.

Thanks, Daniel, for the link to this impressive initiative. However, as far as I can see it does not even mention comics scripted in languages other than English. This is indicative of the predominantly Anglocentric approach to Comics Studies. I would like to link up with anyone interested in the study of Hispanic comics and graphic literature, possibly with a view to setting up a network of researchers. Further on we may be able to get some funding for this initiative through the UK funding bodies. Any declarations of interest?
