I argue that:

* organic or mechanical intelligences that can pro-actively protect themselves, their habitats, and/or their species from life-threatening situations can be treated as being aware (which would include most known fauna on earth); whilst

* only those organic or mechanical intelligences that can pass the Turing Test (see Section 17.E, Query 17, of the attached work) could be treated as being self-aware.
