STZ model is really bad to test antidiabetic drugs because drugs need insulin to work and STZ depletes it almost completely. Sometimes you may experience an hypoglycemic effect with this model but I think it is because the extract or the drug is not tolerated and the rats eat less than normal.

Moreover, lower dose of STZ to induce a slight hypo-insulinemia, are not repetitive from test to test and very different from rat to rat. Use fat fed mice or diabetic mice or zucker rat (200$/rat)
