May I know, can we apply the software Solidworks (simulator) as an elective course for BSc studies of Mechanical Engineering? IMHO, the useful features of this software is for learning designing, meshing, and simulation of static and dynamic load applied, flow simulation, natural and forced convection heat transfer simulation and frequency. I hope to know is there any university that applied this software as an academic program in the BSc studies.

For more than 10 years in our university (Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria) we have successfully used SOLIDWORKS (SW) as a training software in least two Bachelor's degree programs (you can review them in the links below). SW is used in regular and elective disciplines such as:
- 3D Modelling (including Assemblies and Drafting techniques);
- Choosing materials in mechanical engineering (for CAE analysis purposes);
- Computer Systems for Mechanical Engineering (advanced modeling techniques, using SW and CAE analysis) ;
- Collaborative Product Development, project (elective course based on SW);
- Collaborative Product Development Using PDM software, project (elective course based on SW + SW Enterprise PDM Integration);

Solidworks is an ideal tool for engineering schools and especially for mechanical engineering. Except from the designing part, the simulation is suitable for students. It is a simple and accurate tool.
You can check my profile in order to find numerous publications with Solidworks Flow Simulation. There are studies with validation of its results with experimental and so it can be adopted as a reliable CFD software.

Also, its simplicity makes it friendly to the students, compared to other commercial CFD tools which demand more work in order to develop the models.

Solidwork software are Modeling and drafting application software, which can be kept in Practical lab. Where as you can develop a lesson plan about the algorithms for creating the option, toolbar, Brep, spline creation and developing premitives, so that student can develop their own software tool.
