I want to extract crude fat. In previous studies petroleum ether with the 40-60 boiling point is used, so may i use petroleum benzine with 40-60 boiling point instead of it? Somebodies had told me they are basically the same, but im not sure of it. In Sigma site they mentioned that these two are synonym names(!).
Petroleum benzene is a mixture of chemical compounds. Depends on the mole fractions and the constituents, the physical properties may vary. Therefore, if you are using it, you must be careful. Also, there will not be any side reactions taking place as it is used as a solvent.
I would highly recommend to go with petroleum either as it is proven as done is previous studies.
