PABON LASSO MODEL: It is a technical efficiency (TE) measurement based on performance. These two terms go hand-in-hand in this model. PL Model is a graphical representation where Y = BTR (bed turn over rate) and X = OCC (occupancy rate). BTR and OCC are performance measurement.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT USED: The performance measured used in PL include:
(1) ALS = inpatient days / admissions
This measures the average number of days the patient stays in the hospital.
(2) OCC = (patient days / bed days) 100
This is the measure of utilization of beds available bed capacity.
(3) BTR = total patient admissions / number of beds
This measures the productivity of hospital beds. These three measures are performance measurements. When they are put into PL plot, it allows the hospital to analyze its technical efficiency.
EFFICIENCY: Efficiency measurement generally involves the use of frontier analysis. The outer limit of the frontier is the expected value against which the performed value is compare. A ratio of 1:1 is the most ideal, but difficult to achieve. This the closer to that ratio is the goal. In PL model the coordinate of the plot of Y = BTR and X = OCC is divided into 4 quadrants. Quadrant III is ideal and I is the most inefficient. See attached figure.
