I am a researcher who have ample knowledge and experience of narrative review but I have been given the task of writing a scoping review. I wanted to ask if it is possible for one reviewer to complete the scoping review as I have found studies with multiple reviewers working together. If one reviewer is enough what are possible steps for that?
Hi Tabeer, from what I can gather it is better to have at least two people reviewing the studies included, with a third person reviewing the content should there be any disagreement. I also found it helpful to seek guidance from two librarians when developing my search syntax (1 x to assist with development and 1 x to help with refining the search terms). Dear Tabeer, in my opinion the first question is what is the review paper about? The review can be chronologically-intensified in order to cover the theory developed under a certain (recent) period of time, commonly 3-5 recent years of publication. Such reviews can disclose the today research interest as well as those dynamics developed for the specific topic investigated. Other types of reviews are relevant to long-run theoretical coverage on selected theoretical topics. The contribution of more colleagues/co-authors should be reasoned under the fact the review should link theory and reality (real world practice), which is especially interesting in technological and comprehensive and critical reviews. Here the critical point is not the "authorship disagreement", but a more comprehensive "research pluralism". Whatsoever partnership is developed, the very end of a review is to point out the current situation and the research constraints, offering also the challenging prospects opened to future researches.
While it is possible for one author to write a scoping review, it is generally recommended to have a team of authors to ensure a comprehensive and rigorous review. Collaborating with other authors can also help to ensure that the review is conducted in a transparent and reproducible manner, and can provide valuable feedback and insights throughout the review process. That being said, if a single author is conducting a scoping review, it is important to ensure that they have the necessary expertise and resources to conduct a thorough and unbiased review.
