We are noticing that more voices are being raised for waiving of loan amount of the distressed farmers who lost their crops due to natural events like drought, hail storm, irregular monsoon, etc. Is it
a sustainable solution? Or there's need of concrete steps to take in terms of continuous supply of basic requirement of power, water for irrigation, seeds, fertilizers at Block-level itself?

Such a move helps only a fraction of farmers and is no solution to mitigate agrarian distress. Hence Farm loan waiver is not a complete solution to farm sector distress.
Waving off farm loan is not the the complete solution to the farmers problem. There is a need to strengthen the weather forecasting system and timely delivery of such message to the farmers to minimize the losses. Further there is need to create facilities for irrigation water through rivers, canal and ponds for timely application of irrigation water. Drainage system is equally important. Timely supply of inputs and technologies to minimize the losses due to any type of weather stress is also important . Crop insurance is also one of the option to compensate farmers.
"Farm loan waiver is not a solution to farm sector distress, it is not a solution but is palliative.” The interest rate on loan may be reduced or cut. The farmer may promote for low external input sustainable agriculture using the eco-system services is expected to make the agri-food value chain more robust. Reducing cost of inputs and ensuring proper price for produce obviously would lead to enhanced farm income and thus, expected to reduce agrarian distress. The Zero budget natural farming is being seen as an alternative to high input intensive agriculture. There are many methods to increase the sustainability of agriculture. Developing sustainable food systems, contributes to the sustainability of the human population. For example, one of the best ways to mitigate climate change is to create sustainable food systems based on sustainable agriculture. Sustainable agriculture provides a potential solution to enable agricultural systems to feed a growing population within the changing environmental conditions.
I agree with waiving of a loan amount of the distressed farmers or decrease benefit ratio and increase the ٌRepayment period.

For the long term, it's urgent to re-emphasize the importance of conserving natural resources, especially agro-biodiversity, increasing carbon sequestration, improving soil health and nutrient use efficiency, generation of renewable energy, scientific eco-regional planning, efficient climate-smart water and nutrient use, crop diversification, greater dependence on locally available plant-based food systems, etc. These would be the possible way out

Loan waiver may be one encouraging solution but this is not the complete solution.
Its not a complete solution. However, crop insurance should be encouraged amongst the farmers so that they could be compensated in case of crop losses......
Not at all, lone waiver is more of a burden to national exchequer than solution....
