Lesson planning is an important element of the teaching-learning process. Well planned lesson plan will keep teachers up to date and organised, thus allowing them to teach efficiently, more and reach the expected learning outcomes of the day. The better prepared the teacher is, the more likely she/he will be able to handle whatever unexpectedly happens in the lesson.
Thank you for your nice question. As a faculty member of Business Administration i do not support to provide lesson plan to the Tertiary level students because it has some limitations ( my personal opinion )
a. Lesson plan may be considered as suggestion.
b. Students do not want to learn out of the given lesson plan
c. Teachers have to prepare all of the questions within that lesson plan.
d. Teachers can not teach any thing out of lesson plan.
From the above reason i personally do not support to provide lesson plan in higher education system.

Lesson planning in the full sense, is less important than clarity of purpose for an experienced teacher at any level. I was recently introduced to the idea of learning intentions and success criteria as a key driver oflesson planning. They had a subtle but real impact on my teaching by clarifying the intentions of EACH lesson. I have been a teacher of Chemistry for 30 years by the way. I rarely plan anything other than these two points (LI and SC), because I have an extensive repertoire of strategies and resources. I do occasionally plan more when I have or find a new idea to try out.
Mr. Mohammed, thank you for sharing your views, however, how do you deliver lecture without planning? Does it meet the expected learning outcome of the day? We plan, so that student meet the expected learning outcome. Mostly in engineering, we have number of batches with minimum 2 to maximum 6, and it is delivered mostly by different teachers. Moreover, lesson plan is advantages when a particular lesson is delivered to different batches by different teachers and at least all of them know what the students has to gain at the end of the lesson. By doing this one can pull the weak teacher to perform his class efficiently.
Mr. Mark, I was out station and could not login, I fully agree with you and your statement that experience teacher does not need a lesson plan and one need to look in to LI and SC. However, if a lesson is delivered to couple of batches by two different teachers, LI may differ if it is not planned. Lesson plan could be prepared in liaison with other teachers who are involved and good practices could be shared. Intension of introducing lesson plan at tertiary level is to give best to the students.
