Leadership is just not a theory....... but costly, global, corrupt, politicized environment has made it impossible... for any sincere, prudent, competent and selfless person to lead......
Leadership that is preached as a theory is a social science theory of social scientists, who are by training not natural scientists. Had science been a social science, we could have stayed only on earth looking the sky simply as an unknown expanse of no purpose. What works in science is universal, while political science is more emanated from cultures and its purpose and success depend on the society it self, independent of scientific truth. That is why society always oscillates in a socio-political merry go round.
I think that leadership, linked to a specific place and time, and a certain level; means that leadership is relative... Any person may be a leader in a particular field and subordinate to other fields..... For example, a certain person we consider a leader !, this person before becoming a leader, was a student for many periods and for several people, as the advice and instructions from the family and friends and even perhaps strangers...
Dear Mr. Zin Eddine Dadach said the theory if it is not in accordance with the environment, it might even cause counterproductive. said policy if the application is in accordance with the environment. a theory can only be applied to certain places, according to character, culture, individual regulation. one company with another company can be different. the company's external environment greatly influences leadership factors, in Indonesia this is very pronounced.
Good attitude and good theory are both necessary but not sufficient for good leadership. There are a myriad of factors that influence leadership, such as context, skills and other actors (besides the leader).
This question is widely raised in corporate training workshops, academic conferences, and classrooms. Leadership is both an art and a science. It is an art because it continually evolves, changes form and requires creativity. It is a science because there are certain essential principles and techniques required.
I'd say that leadership has faded into theory over time and that we have become disconnected from the etiological tenets of what constitutes real leadership and how it should manifest in the real world. In its place we have come up with endless streams of meaningless padding and waffle that reduces the potential for real leadership to emerge and thrive. To borrow from and bastardise Robert Moore - our is not an age that wants leaders. Ours is an age of envy, in which laziness and self-involvement are the rule.
We have forgotten what makes truly great leadership and created environments where it is unable to be nurtured and protected while it takes the time it needs to develop fully. We need a restoration of leadership that moves beyond theory and reconnects us to that which has been acted out over vast amounts of human history to be the fundamental characteristics of leadership.
leaders are different from leadership. The leader is more to the person while leadership is the character that is inherent in a leader. In simple terms, a leader is a person who has subordinates while leadership is a trait possessed by a leader. leaders do not necessarily have leadership but if someone has leadership is usually a leader.
There were a few individuals who really worked as good leaders or according to the formulations given in good theories. However, unfortunately it was possible to observe real incidents such as giving promotions to unqualified persons, appointment of personnel for top positions on political influences, unnecessary foreign trips and local functions, sexual harassments, bullying behaviours, retaliations, evil conflicts, assassinations, character assassinations, assaults, abuse of public properties, receiving various gifts and gratifications by assigning contract work to relatives, friends or associates, receiving a high commission on the basis of purchasing various assets or properties at higher prices for government or organization, and misappropriation of public funds. These incidents suggest that good theories of leadership such as Great Person Thesis, Behavioral Theories, Situational Theories and Contemporary Theories are not being practiced by people who are working as leaders in various organizations.
Because of the fact that majority of current leaders are unethical, illegally motivated and mal-managerial, the utility of good theories of leadership cannot be discredited or turned down. They are indeed very useful and critical for developing future and young people to become good leaders. I wish that good leadership could become reality rather than rhetoric.
