In my work I would like to study the effect of item format on psychometric characteristics of the items in reading comprehension assesment.
At the moment, feedback concerning the theme of my research is required: is it, in your opinion, relevant; is it an interesting problem?
If you are referring to the wording of the items it is related to the evidence of content validity that is part of the psychometric properties for instrumental investigations.
Yes. For comparison you might look at the "cognitive aspects of survey methodology" (CASM) work. It aims to understand how aspects of survey items can affect responses.
Olga Soboleva. First up, I think, as does Daniel Wright above, that this is an interesting problem. Might you be able to provide more information, however, e.g., what you mean by item format. Presumably you don't mean the wording (content) of items.
For what it's worth, some colleagues and I are just about to have an article published in which we changed the format of a set of items on a frequently used scale from something that we considered to be wordy and unwieldy to something that was more "streamlined". We had considerably higher response rates with the scale that we used relative to typical response rates on the "parent" scale, but streamlining of items was not the only modification we effected.
We have recently submitted an article in which we investigated the effect of different kinds of response options, and it's currently under review. I hope that we will be able to have both articles published open access (and soon).
