Yes why not ? It depands uponthe status of the root treatment performed. If the tooth is asymptomatic and canals are easily driable using just 1 or two absorbent points,than any definitive resotration in single visit is no problem.
Single-visit-endodontics is comparable to a multiple-visit approach. You don´t have difficulties in removing the intracanal medicament and you can carry on with your adhesive filling immediately afterwards. Even a symptomatic tooth can be treated this way (see "Journal of Endodontics: Successful single-visit endodontics during operation desert shield " from Jurczak et al. J Endod 19, 412 (1993)). However, there may be more post-operative pain (Figini et al. J Endod 2008).

The periapical porcess will in most cases heal if there are no more bacteria inside the root canal system. The article cited is rather old and may be not available online. I also have the article not available in a form that I could provide through the internet...sorry!

Creo que muchos coincidimos en que la sintomatología es un buen indicador para tomar la decisión correcta. Personalmente no realizo TPR de una sola intención, pues si bien pudiese presentarse un caso "asintomático", puede ser cuestión de horas o días para que la microbiota decida hacerse notar.
Si bien sabemos que está bien establecido que si se puede, yo prefiero hacer las cosas con calma, analizar, medicar, y seguir la evolución de lo que sería "un diente y caso universalmente diferente a los de TODOS los libros", y así asegurarme de no tener que hacer re-tratamientos y causarle molestias innecesarias al paciente.
Solo es mi humilde opinión.

Definitivamente coincido en que es posible tener buenos resultados con tratamientos de sesión única, siempre y cuando se tengan en cuenta los parámetros y puntos claves ya planteados aquí por otros colegas que acertadamente escriben.

This is an important topic so I will present detailed information :
- In general, if the patient presents with severe symptoms and the diagnosis is acute apical periodontitis or abscess, obturation is contraindicated. These are emergency situations, and it is preferable to manage the immediate problem and delay definitive treatment.
- Painful irreversible pulpitis is a different situation. Because the inflamed pulp (which is the pain source) is to be removed, obturation may be completed at the same appointment.
- In necrotic Pulp without significant symptoms, obturation may be completed during the same appointment as canal preparation. Pulp necrosis with asymptomatic periradicular pathosis (that is, chronic apical periodontitis, suppurative apical periodontitis, or condensing osteitis) alone is not necessarily a contraindication to single-appointment treatment at least as related to postobturation symptoms.
- There may be an advantage, however, to multiple appointments related to healing of apical pathosis. Some studies indicate the benefits of treating these patients in two visits. Placement of an intracanal antimicrobial dressing such as calcium hydroxide reduces bacteria and reduces inflammation somewhat.
- One situation that contraindicates single-visit care is the presence and persistence of exudation in the canal during preparation. The potential for post-treatment exacerbation is increased if the periapical lesion is productive and generates continual suppuration. If the canal is sealed, pressure and corresponding tissue destruction may proceed rapidly. In these cases, canal preparation is completed, followed by calcium hydroxide placement. A dry cotton pellet is placed over the calcium hydroxide and the access is sealed with a temporary restoration. Generally, exudation will be diminished and controllable at a subsequent appointment; obturation may then be completed.

Are you asking about the root canal therapy and crown preparation ? Well you must ideally wait for a few days before proceeding ahead with the preparation. The irrigants and debris does get extruded from the apical foramen into the peri-apical tissues and thus, the tooth may become tender. I had a few cases where patients were in a rush but actually ended up in trouble later on as patients kept on complaining for quite a while.
In my opinion, we should ideally give it a few days before proceeding ahead for restoration preparation.
