During AD process of cooked waste and cow dung , the volume of digester was maintained up to 60% of total volume of Reactor. In many article it is noticed that for optimum degradation of substrate it is necessary to fill up the reactor up to 70% of total volume. what will be the effect of BMP, if the volume of slurry becomes less than the 70% of total volume?
AJIT mohan DAS: according to my opinion there is not big difference if the netto volume of an anaerobic biorectors is 60 % or 70 % of brutto volume. The optimum degradation of a substrate depends upon various bioengineering parameters (e.g. hydraulic retention time, temperature, pH, solids content, quality of substrate and its biodegradability,...) but volume of substrate in an anaerobic bioreactor has nearly no influence (with the exception of very low filling, say 10 % of brutto volume) upon process efficiency.

No 70% is not required but it is a reasonable level to try to maintain, What size unit are you studying and/or building?
