Is it recommended to write PhD proposal in a very new topic where there is lack of literature? For example all of past studies are from 2016 and there is no solid ground even that there is a huge direction towards the topic?
Kayode Asaju I mean that there is only new references as the topic emerged by 2009. So is it recomnded to work on a topic that don't has historical literature ?
In harmony with Reza Biria's and Kayode Asaju's answers, I think that without a strong literature review your study will lack of a solid argument. Moreover, such a lack of related studies will not enable you to illustrate how your study fits into the existing studies or a gap in the literature.
The good point here is that you have fresh published studies. On the negative side, however, the problem here is that your examiners well consider that such a scanty account of previous studies means that the study lacks knowledge about the research topic. This will negatively impact your marks and grades.
To get out of this dilemma, seek for your supervisor's advice or experts in your study field.
