Alexander's stain is a simple staining technique that effectively distinguishes viable from non viable pollen and works pretty well on freshly detached anthers. I have never seen histological sections treated with Alexander's stain. Does anybody know if it is possible to use Alexander's stain on histological cross sections?
Why bother with the complex Alexander? Simple DAPI dip will tell you the same thing ;)

Thanks Marcin, good suggestion. However on alexander's sections, I insist on my doubts. Alexander's stain pics shown on the article look like whole mount rather than histological sections.
