A couple of my colleagues were doing this sort of work for martian dust devil experiments. Have a Google for Tim Ringrose of the Open University - drop him a line and I'm sure that he would help with the practicalities. He's authored a couple of papers on the topic.
Briefly, 'yes' vertical transport of sand can be accomplished.
I'm sure that any decent publication database would yield a few thousand hits for terrestrial work, you just need to find someone with a bit of time and some interest.
This is basically what a vacuum cleaner does.
For a larger scale look up a Vactor Truck on Google. They can have hoses up
to a foot in diameter.
They can be used to drill cavities in the ground, or even drill caissons
for concrete signs or for traffic signal mast arms in locations that
already have too many utilities.
They are slower than conventional drill rigs, but safer on existing
utilities.

What do you have in mind ?
I want to use potential energy of sand to rotate turbine for generation of electricity..
Durability of the turbine will be a problem, as sand is very abrasive.
