I would like to know how can I vent the cells (under laboratory condition) using short circuit. My question is that under short circuit condition, the CID is triggered and the current is interrupted before the venting isn't it?. How to bypass the CID to open the Vents of the Lithium Ion Cells to test the venting pressure and resulting behaviour? Thanks in advance.

I think you mean you want to eliminate the safety function of the PTC integrated in to the cell whose role is to break the connections if short circuit occurred.
I have not done yet, but it could work: try to open the cap carefully with a slicer at the groove and remove the PTC part. Then, put everything back in such way the upper and lower metal vent rings be in contact so the current path is provided through the metal vent rings only.
It is a dangerous procedure so take care of avoiding short-circuit.

if I understand you right, you like to measure the opening pressure and maybe the amount of material comes out of the cell in case of the thermal runaway right? What kind of cell you will use? A PHEV or BEV cell?
Unfortunately it is not possible to by pass the CID. You can only made a nail penetration test, to get a thermal runaway. I have done a lot of this kind of test. You can try to call me (01525-7342153) or send an E-Mail ([email protected]) to discuss this topic deeper in detail.
