I have a small monster truck, having 3.5CC engine. I modified this car for competition; changing almost all parts other than transmission and engine. Originally, gear on gearbox side was plastic made & gear on engine side is CI, the problem I am facing is, seas of plastic gear at high load (while climbing up). Hence I am thinking of manufacturing gearbox side gear with a material which is softer than CI but should not seas.
Good that you are going for reinforced gear which can surely have a weight reduction and thereon the Life can be enhanced with minimized wear and Noise levels which are the characteristics of a Transmission system...The negatives of the innovative approach is that the load handling by the gears ie. the thrust on shifting and Torque on driving may bring in SLIPS...this would create an unfounded jerks during engagements but may not be sensed in the early stages....The commonly reliable material for Transmission Gears are forged Cast Steel with hardness value lesser than the transmission shaft...
