I tried to extract the polymer through Soxhlet extraction.
According to some references, the sequence for the organic solvents is methanol, acetone, hexane, toluene, and chloroform.
The weight-average molecular mass (Mw) of the polymer extracted from different fractions were obtained through Gel-permeable chromatography (GPC).
Normally, only the toluene and chloroform fractions were analyzed and the Mw of polymer in chloroform is generally higher than the toluene.
During an experiment, I found that the hexane fraction seems to extracted out quite a large amount of compounds than the toluene. Hence, the hexane sample was analyzed via GPC. It was found that the "compound" in the hexane has high Mw than the toluene fraction.
Shall I switch the sequence of the organic solvents during soxhlet?
