I want to use GFP as a model biomarker to test a few substances on a variety of bacterial strains (gm + ve and -ve). For such a purpose, I have been using E Coli RIL cells which are regularly been used for the expression of various proteins of interest . We know what is special about the RILs, but is it anyway possible to express GFP within a range of other bacterial cells as well ?

sure. GFP can be expressed in wide array of gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains.

Yes, the conversion of the Ser65-Tyr66-Gly67 sequence into the fluorophore requires only molecular oxygen as cofactor, so you can use GFP in any aerobic cell that has enough catalase activity to deal with the resulting H2O2.
