I just read some articles and my curiosity pushes me to know if it is possible because I do not have too much knowledge on the to Estimate Leaf Area Index (LAI) in Rice Crop Using VitiCanopy?
Yes, but with a special modification , I employed this application on wheat and chickpea , you can take all the leaves in a known area 100 cm2 for example , then furnish the leaves on an (A3) paper ,
calculate the area of the A3 paper (1000 square cm for example).
check both of leaf area index and porosity of the rice leaf gaps on the A3 paper , both methods are right , but measuring porosity is more precise , if porosity is 0.095 that means 1000 x 0.095 = 95 cm2 of the paper is not covered by the leves .
so the actual area of the leaves = 1000 - 95 = 925 cm2
leaf area index in the field = 925 / 100 = 9.25
you can also use the leaf area index , but some results are misleading , so use both of the methods , they are checking each other .
this method is very fast and precise , calibrate it before using and be careful of labelling the samples inside your mobile .
