A commonly used approach to estimate consumption rates in wild fish is to use radiocesium or mercury mass balance models that incorporate temporal sampling of the fish and its diet items. Given that carbon 13 is also a stable isotope is it not possible to use a similar mass balance approach to obtain an independent estimate of consumption rates as in Forseth et al. (1992)?
