Abacus is commonly a FEA software. For my thesis work I want to try this for building seismic analysis. and also want to use this according to some specified building codes.
Sangat perlu sekali. Apalagi untuk keamanan bagi penguna, terutama masyarakat umum. Di saat bangunan 5 lantai tentu sudah mempunyai ketinggian di atas 10 m, dan harus di analisys seismic.
Rest assured that abaqus is capable of modeling complex structural behaviors, including dynamic responses to seismic events. Here are brief suggestions on how you can approach it:
1. Seismic analysis with Abaqus:
You can create a detailed model of your building, including the geometry, material properties, and boundary conditions. Kindly note that Abaqus allows for complex material definitions, including nonlinear behaviors, which are essential for capturing the inelastic response during an earthquake.
Consequently, abaqus offers several methods for dynamic analysis, such as modal analysis, response spectrum analysis, time history analysis etc
2. Using Building Codes:
Take note that while Abaqus doesn’t inherently include specific building codes, you can implement the requirements of various seismic design codes (e.g., Eurocode 8, ASCE 7, IS 1893) into your analysis.
This typically involves defining load combinations according to the specified codes, including seismic loads; Applying design spectra; Nonlinear analysis requirements
NB: While at it these are some challenges and considerations you may have to be cognizant of:
1. Abaqus is highly detailed, so setting up and running a seismic analysis, especially with nonlinearities, can be complex and computationally intensive.
2. It’s crucial to validate your Abaqus model against simpler, well-documented cases or analytical solutions to ensure accuracy before applying it to your building.
3. You might need to use other tools (e.g., for creating input ground motions or for specific code-based checks) alongside Abaqus.
An example use case:
A study could involve modeling a 10-story reinforced concrete building in Abaqus and performing a nonlinear time history analysis using ground motion data from a real earthquake. The results could be compared against design requirements specified in a code like ASCE 7 to evaluate the building's performance.
