There is no operational problem in connecting transformer-less inverter with smart grids. A set of line reactors must be present between the two. The case of concern is that all points in the inverter power circuit, including its DC lines are now at the grid potential. This can cause shock hazard and earth leakage current flow through the inverter. If there is a Solar PV panel at the dc input, the leakage current flow can cause some long term problems to the panels. Sufficient literature is available on these to[ics.
