A grid with different DG's are schedule to operate on different peak hours, which software can be used to simulate this kind of operation
matlab simulink is a good suggestion but it uses alot of computing burden and takes a lot
use Psim instead.it's accurate and light
You can use dspace to bridge the lab equipment and matlab, which may be costing you much but it is the best.

@Thodoris: I think ETAP was high expensive than other softwares, But its very useful... i have tried their demo version.
