Hello everyone ! I am currently working on mechanical properties of hybrid composite materials. I fabricated single and hybrid fiber composites and tested the mechanical properties (like tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength) for both single and hybrid fiber composites. The hybrid composites are showing better results compared to the individual fiber composites. But some research articles show the hybrid results are between the individual single fiber composite results.Can anyone suggest whether my results are right or wrong.

This depends on the type of fiber used as the target of hybridization Relay is to reduce the cost so that the properties can rise when the merger between the two types of fiber and possibly landing in another case if there is a big difference between the properties of the two types of fiber.

Thank you sir for giving reply. The fibers are used in present work is jute and banana and the type of matrix is Epoxy.I fabricated unidirectional fibers in the laminate form to calculate the mechanical properties.The properties are calculated along the longitudinal and transverse direction.The properties like stiffness and strength are calculated from the tensile test and flexural test.
The hybrid composite results are showing good stiffness and strength compare to the individual jute fiber composite and banana fiber composite.

ideally, the hybrid should behave better than the individual components. Ning Pan back in the 1990s studied the strength behavior of hybrids with respect to the strength of the individual components. See for example the model in

Deviation of the properties from rule of mixture, is called "hybrid effect" which can be positive or negative. The positive hybrid effect means the hybrid composite properties would be better than those given from rule of mixture. Generally, the hybrid effect depends on the properties of the fibres, matrix and the fibre volume fractions and some other parameters like stacking sequence and etc.
That is, your results can be correct and maybe you have chosen (by chance maybe) the right properties which give positive hybrid effect.

That is not always fit for hybrid composite because there is various parameter, compatability among fiber and with resin matrix hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature of fiber and matrx.
For industrial/technical applications we need to provide not only high strength for a composite, but the complete complex of thermo-physical and physico-mechanical properties. Usually, we get the list of property demands (from 5 to 30 properties) from the customer with the words "...not less than..." and values of properties. The usage of hybrid reinforcements is mainly connected with the necessity to provide some different demands...
No matter if your results seem better or worse. You should ask yourself if results fulfill your objectives. composite materials are often subject of design, maybe mathematically or on practical basis but you may direct behavior and control expected properties w the use of a wide set of testing methods.
Maybe what is wrong for an application is good for another.
What kind of fiber you are working with: natural, synthetic. Natural fibers have a very wide range of behaviors.
Hybrid composites do show better mechanical properties as compared to plain single fiber composite, only at certain environmental conditions. Suppose, you are testing the composite at high temperature (at temperature near glass transition temperature of the polymer matrix), so here the properties will be matrix dominated and no role of fiber hybridisation will be observed.
Hence to be general, the hybridisation will be effective only at certain environmental conditions.
hence results may vary as per the conditioning you are going for.
i agree with Mr.Meet, the hybridisation effect mainly depending on environmental conditions. so depends on your applications points of you will check whether hybridisation require or not.... At normal (room temperature) conditions hybrid shows better properties than sigle fibre composite.

Obviously you hybridize with the objective of enhancing material performance so you results may be right. Repeat it the experimental process and test to check for reliability then you can confidently tell if the results are right
