I highly doubt it, since Jihadists are not motivated by socioeconomic deprivation. Jihadists are typically fairly well-off, educated people who are attracted to the quasi-utopian vision of fighting a cosmic war against the metaphysical forces of evil.
Not really, religion has nothing to do with what had happened in West Africa all the while. The long suffering and torment in the past still have its negative impact on the people till date and this has led them to think and be OK of just being average, it's the mind-set of the people that distanced them from development which is sad cuz Africans are so gifted and talented in every-way.
Terrorism uses religion to justify its actions. However there are few, if any, religions that support terrorism. If West Africa becomes a hub for terrorism it will be due more to socio-economic factors than religious ones. Islam is a religion of peace, that can be corrupted just as Christianity has been far too many times.

As an aggregate, Muslims are higher in fundamentalism than other religious groups. Combine that with research suggesting that marginalization and perceptions of threat are linked to increased radicalization and you have a combination of variables that could lead to large-scale terrorism in specific regions of Africa.
