In an experiment, we are required to fractionally distill a 1:1 mixture of acetone and ethanol. The first 5mL of the distillate is collected for GC. From the GC data obtained which shows the area of peak of acetone and ethanol for 1:1 acetone-ethanol mixture, first 5mL distillate of simple distillation and first 5mL distillate of fractional distillation, we are required to calculate the HETP of our fractional distillation column. As shown in the attached picture, the number of theoretical plate calculated is 0.7789 plates which is less than 1. Is this logical?
